About
After graduating from Bath Spa University I moved to London to find inspiration and pursue a career in Art. I am a land and cityscape oil painter, creating works only with a palette knife. My paintings are made of many layers and built up texture; in the impasto style, this helps me achieve depth and a sense of distance within a piece.
With my recent work I have made compositions utilising sparseness, for example using large areas of the canvas for the sky and river to draw the viewer into the city to involve them in its energy and atmosphere. I am intrigued by the beautiful architecture in London especially the juxtaposition of new and ancient landmarks. I use accents of intense colour to draw the eye throughout my paintings which otherwise use subdued London colours. My most common way of making work involves painting from photographs I have taken to get as much detail as possible from a view I have captured, but also visiting a place in order to fully convey its atmosphere.
